'In The Basement': Hilarious & Horrifying

From a recent entry in La Petite Morgue's blog:

'In The Basement is a smart, darkly funny play, with witty dialogue. Most writers find it difficult to strike the right balance between funny and scary. If an audience member is afraid for the characters they're watching, they'll have a hard time laughing at them; and the reverse is usually true as well: If we care about the people onstage and whether or not they survive to curtain call, we're usually too nervous to laugh. But, sometimes, comedy and horror can actually feed off one another - we laugh because we're nervous or uncomfortable. Watching In The Basement is like reading The Worst Room - hilarious and horrifying, completely surreal and completely familiar, bizarre and over-the-top, yet utterly real. Because sometimes real life is the scariest story there is.' - Claire Fishman
